Fire and smoke prevention checklist | Prevent a fatal outcome

Fire and smoke in homes and other buildings pose an enormous danger. The number of fatal residential fires is around 30 per year. Fires involve increasingly extreme smoke, which reduces the chances of survival. GND Garantiedeuren has created a checklist to alert people to the dangers and provide tips to counter the effects of fire and smoke. After all, doors play a crucial role in this.

The fall is all about fire and smoke safety; several organizations are calling attention to the issue to raise awareness. The need is high. In relatively small fires in residential (healthcare) buildings, smoke increasingly spreads through a large part of the building. As a result, residents suffer health damage or even death. Moreover, 40 years ago you had 17 minutes to escape in the event of a fire that is nowadays only 3 minutes due to the use of synthetic materials, furniture and constructions. The synthetic materials increase smoke generation. In addition, lithium-ion batteries from mobility scooters or electric bikes, for example, pose an additional risk. Knowing how to act in case of fire or smoke can be life-saving.

GND is the umbrella organization of leading Dutch door manufacturers. The member door manufacturers make a concerted effort to ensure optimal quality and performance of interior and exterior doors, to promote trust between manufacturers and their customers and social issues such as safety and sustainability.
