Berlin's Zehlendorf district is characterized by historically important monuments and beautiful old villas. Yet you will also find a lot of homes dating back to the 1960s that are in dire need of renovation. Architect Florentine Raspé gave the facade of a multi-family house on the Potsdamer Chaussée a complete makeover.
For this, she combined plaster and Kebony wood, which not only provides good thermal insulation, but also adds aesthetic value. For mounting the wooden slats, carpentry company Struve used UNIX-top facade screws from HECO.
The facade of a 1960s row house was in dire need of renovation.
A cladding with plaster and Kebony wood provides a modern look.
Although traditional brick is still all the rage, today alternative cladding such as crepi, glass, aluminum, steel, plaster, wood is often chosen. For example, the facade of a renovated multifamily house in Berlin's Zehlendorf district stands out for its successful combination of plaster and wood. "The new facade cladding not only provides good thermal insulation, but also a modern look that fits in perfectly with the surroundings," states architect Florentine Raspé. "I deliberately chose high-quality Kebony wood, a modified native softwood, which, after impregnation with a bio-alcohol-based liquid and heat treatment, is just as durable and weather-resistant as tropical wood and also does not require any further treatment."
The wooden facade blends perfectly with the surroundings. The combination of plaster and wood makes the home modern and inviting.
To fasten the Kebony slats, carpenter Struve from Steinbergkirche used some sixteen thousand HECO-UNIX-top facade screws with a diameter of 4.5 mm and a small, inconspicuous countersunk lens head. The patented full thread - with its variable pitch - pulls the wooden components firmly against the substructure. This results in a secure and durable connection and avoids rattling noises caused by loose battens.
"Tests showed that these HECO stainless steel screws were ideal for mounting the Kebony slats," says CEO Nis Peter Struve, who outright chooses HECO products. "Since we always use screws with the same head, we don't have to keep changing the bits either. In addition, the milling ribs prevent the wood from cracking during screwing, so there is no need to pre-drill. Thus, we save a lot of time."
