Europrovyl leads the way to sustainability: window frames made of fossil-free and recycled PVC

Window frame manufacturer Europrovyl and profile supplier Kömmerling Nederland present a promising development: window frames made of fossil-free PVC and recycled material. The window frames will be used in autumn 2023 in Heijmans' new construction project Tuindershof Zuid. The use of this innovation on this project in Pijnacker will save 8,500 kilograms of CO2. To illustrate: this is equivalent to flying from Amsterdam to Paris 56 times.

Earlier this year, Kömmerling introduced profiles made of bio-attributed PVC. In cooperation with Europrovyl, this innovation has become even more sustainable with the addition of a core of recycled PVC. "One of the raw materials of fossil-free plastic is tall-oil, a residual product from sustainably managed forests. This replaces fossil petroleum. Using this fossil-free raw material produces high-quality materials with a lower environmental impact," said Jelmer Bijlsma, manager of sustainability and innovation at Kömmerling Netherlands. He continues: "The core of this bio-attributed PVC profile consists of old plastic window frames and remnants. These are recycled and reused."

This development confirms Europrovyl's leading role in sustainability and innovation. It is a significant step towards a more sustainable future and underlines Europrovyl's commitment to environmentally friendly innovation.

"This window frame maintains its high quality and functionality. At the same time, it has a positive impact on reducing the carbon footprint and avoids dependence on finite resources," says Jan Slagman, commercial director of Europrovyl. "It typifies Europrovyl's ongoing commitment to integrate sustainability into its core business while meeting the growing demand for environmentally friendly products."

It is precisely this commitment that makes Heijmans and Europrovyl continue to find each other in construction projects. Pim Ketelaars, Sustainability Manager Residential Construction at Heijmans says, "We are constantly challenging our suppliers to continue to innovate and become more sustainable. Europrovyl has been a cooperation partner of ours for over ten years and they know how to answer our demand for new products time and again. These window frames are an example of that. Window frames made of recycled material and/or bio-based material was a goal. That has now become reality."

With the introduction of plastic window frames made of fossil-free PVC with a recycled core, Europrovyl and Kömmerling are showing that a more sustainable future is within reach. "We want to inspire other organizations to take similar steps and work together to create a world where environmentally friendly and future-proof products are the norm. Together we can have a positive impact and leave a sustainable legacy for future generations," concludes Jan Slagman.
