Monumental farm complex transformed into ten owner-occupied homes

A number of Sevenum residents joined forces to create a unique residential location. A characteristic farmhouse with stables and a large hay barn, a municipal monument, became the chosen location to transform into 10 owner-occupied homes. The municipality of Horst aan de Maas, to which Sevenum belongs, was enthusiastic and granted full cooperation. CPO association Steinhagen was founded in 2018 (Steinhagen is the name of the farm) and so the development process could start. In the various building sections, a total of 10 owner-occupied homes were realized, preserving as much of the authentic atmosphere as possible.

Thanks to the use of skylights for daylighting, the original appearance of the facade remained intact.

Daylight through the roofs

The central yard is where everything comes together. Here will also be the entrance to the two upper dwellings under the roof. A newly built "barn" at the back of the plot will house a communal meeting space, with a view over the fields. The monumental stables and hay barn were still in their original state. After a thorough renovation, they became beautiful loft apartments.

Plenty of natural light and comfortably operable.

The complex is close to the center of Sevenum, there is a beautiful unobstructed view and a huge garden. With guidance from Kilimanjaro Wonen, the feasibility was investigated and it turned out that 10 homes were needed to make the project affordable. To preserve the exterior facades, a new shell will be built within the old building walls. Thus, the houses will soon be perfectly insulated, necessary for application of ground heat. To keep the appearance of the facades as original as possible, openings for daylight were essentially added through the roofs. The design receives appreciation from the monument committee.

Electric operation of skylights

On behalf of their good relationship Stalufor - concepts in building hardware, Teleflex BV has supplied 19 units of C40 chain openers for opening the various windows present in these houses for sale. The large skylights can be controlled by remote control. This provides all residents with the desired comfort and convenience. The project has now been completed. And the conclusion is clear: it is a brilliant result. All in all, we can talk about a unique project and a unique form of living, where the combination of preservation of historical value and modern techniques show that even a farm dating from 1800 can be brought into 2022 in terms of livability and comfort. The successful application of daylighting through skylights, which owe their functionality to Teleflex's C40 openers, has contributed substantially to the preservation of the original appearance of the end facades.
