Over the past two years, Comhan has invested in making the organization more sustainable and expanding. The construction of an entirely new energy-neutral warehouse and the arrival of the new office, Comhan is making strides toward growth and sustainability.
As of February, we are working in our renovated office, to which several sustainable systems have been added. For example, we now heat our office environment with energy-efficient heat pumps and have solar panels to generate energy. These can be found both on the roof of our new warehouse and on the roof of our new office. The goal is to generate 80% of energy at Comhan with the solar panels.
In addition, a healthy working environment is very important, for this reason we chose to have a modern air ventilation system installed. This system ensures that polluted air is removed and clean air is supplied. A fine working climate has many advantages, such as better productivity and health, but also ensures that the life span of the building is promoted.
The vast majority of the fleet has now gone electric. Among other things, we have installed smart charging stations in our parking lot, where electric cars can be charged. We like to contribute to a better and greener future both in the office and outside the office.
Sustainability was very central to the construction of our new building, but appearance and the choice of certain materials were also very important when designing a new workplace.
The new warehouse is fully equipped with an innovative and durable floor heating system and is very well insulated. This ensures that we have the same temperature in our warehouse all year round. It is beneficial for the aluminum that there is a constant temperature in the warehouse because then the chance of corrosion and condensation is very small. In addition, it is very nice for Comhan's employees that the new warehouse also has plenty of daylight coming in through the skylights.
In the new warehouse, the vast majority is automatically controlled. In total, about 3,000 tons of aluminium profiles in are stored in the storage and ordering system, which contains a total of 2,600 cassettes.
By truck we unload new aluminum profiles in our shipping hall. After this, we will load the aluminum profiles into the appropriate containers at a first station. Finally, the storage of the containers is done automatically by crane. This ensures that the loaded containers are picked up and put away in the high warehouse.
If an operator needs profiles to fulfill an order, this crane again takes care of bringing the necessary containers to station 2 or to station 3. There the operator can take the required profiles from the container by hand.
When all profiles are picked for an order, the bundle is also automatically wrapped. This is taken to the outbound shipping department, where the bundle can be loaded onto the truck. Because of the high level of automation, an order can be picked and also prepared for shipment in a very efficient manner.
Because Comhan's ERP system is interfaced with the Kasto warehouse's weight control and WMS, pick and pack errors have dropped significantly, by as much as 98%. The advantage for our employees is that their work has also become lighter. In fact, they no longer have to lift and move as much aluminum. As a result, there is also much less handling damage. A finer working method and less physical strain is much appreciated by the employees in our warehouse.
With the remodeling of our office and the arrival of an energy-efficient warehouse, we at Comhan are ready for a sustainable future. As wholesale aluminum we are already making a nice step toward being more environmentally friendly.
