Self-adhesive tapes open new possibilities in the construction and building supply industry. tesa, one of the world's leading producers of such tapes, offers with the ACXplus family an ideal solution for, among other things, the quick fixing of reinforcing profiles. Recently, these self-adhesive tapes type 70200 were used for mounting profiles on Alucobond® panels, giving the facade of the Mirage Gstaad in Switzerland, an artwork by Doug Aitken, an impressive look.
Context plays an important role in the experience of art. For example, an artwork by Doug Aitken takes on a whole new meaning in the Swiss mountains. Mirage Gstaad is a new version of an installation Aitken previously built in Detroit. Mirage Detroit was a house of mirrors in a vacant bank building. The impressive building mirrored the old building and made visitors think about the American economy and the current state of affairs in Detroit. Things are different in Gstaad, Switzerland, because the village is many times wealthier than Detroit and the richest people on earth go there for winter sports. The facility is also outside instead of inside and reflects the beautiful nature.
For the construction of the "Mirage Gstaad," various forms of mirrored composite panels were used with Alucobond® by tesa® assembled. Those panels are based on a strategic collaboration with 3A Composites and consist of securely bonded architectural panels on a substructure. For mounting the reinforcement profiles on the Alucobond® panels was adhesive tape 70200 from the ACXplus family of tesa used.

"This tape is ideal for the quick attachment of reinforcing profiles on panels made of aluminum, stainless steel and other non-corrosive metals, as well as on composite panels, such as the Alucobond façade panels. This revolutionary solution enables the perfect reflection of the environment and nature, guarantees invisible and vibration-free installation of the panels and also ensures that individual panels can be easily removed," says Technical Sales & Application Support Jens Emmerich.
"They are distinguished by high adhesion even to difficult materials, very high initial adhesion and excellent resistance to cold shock. Indeed, acrylic foam viscoelastic tapes compensate for differences in thermal expansion and therefore guarantee an invisible and vibration-free installation of the profiles on the back of the panels. Moreover, the tape can be pre-adhered to the profiles, allowing for more flexible and efficient work planning."
