MES system as basis for Industry 4.0

Choice of digitization

No more printing and opening a drawing in no time. With the new software system TrymaSoft, Façadis Gevelbouw digitizes its production of windows and doors. Huub Kooiker went to work for his graduation research and the implementation of the software.

“I am studying Technical Business Administration at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and for my thesis research I mapped the number of interruptions - including causes of production and work planners. One of the causes, for example, was the physical work drawings Façadis was working with at the time. A work drawing contained an awful lot of information. Much of that information was unnecessary and made the whole thing cluttered,” says Huub.

Another common problem was due to ambiguities in the drawing; many documents had to be printed and work planners were spending extra time walking around with the printed work drawings. “By making these drawings digital and splitting information by workstation, these interruptions can be significantly reduced. As a piece of advice, therefore, I recommended using a Manufacturing Execution System (MES system). In doing so, I offered a few suggestions of such systems.”

To that end, Dennis Koning, co-owner of Tryma was approached by Façadis Facade Construction. “Some of our machines are already in this factory. Tryma started developing its own software almost two years ago. First from the need to be able to control our own machines and buffer systems, but we also see an increasing need for digitalization on the shop floor. That's how we started talking with Façadis. Most companies currently still work from paper. Since we already import a lot of information into TrymaSoft for controlling our machines, the step to a visual workstation was small.”

Efficient and less prone to error

What Tryma envisioned with its software matched Façadis“ request perfectly. After his research, Huub worked on the implementation of TrymaSoft. ”The system works on the basis of an import from a work preparation system and is used on tablets at Façadis. Among other things, it allows employees to open work orders, which solved the paper problem. They can also open the pdf files containing detail drawings of our engineering. The countless work drawings and work orders can now all be viewed on a tablet. By zooming, even the smallest detail is visible. Projects can be found with a search function, which uses a keyboard or a scanner. With the scanner, we can use a QR code to bring up the relevant window frame right away and skip three manual search steps. It works much more efficiently and is less prone to error!"

Dennis adds: “The unique thing about TrymaSoft is that it is a completely Cloud solution. We host the software and database and the customer only needs an Internet connection with an account to access their own secure environment.” This can be done on tablets, as well as on laptops, PCs and smartphones. Our goal is to eventually connect to all known work preparation systems and digitize the entire process.”

Within Façadis Gevelbouw the sounds are very enthusiastic, says Huub: “The cooperation is pleasant because TrymaSoft is quickly accessible and because of their knowledge and experience in the industry they think along with us in terms of content. We are looking forward to the new modules TrymaSoft is developing. Personally, I find it a valuable addition to the process. Structureware provides more structure, less dependence on loose communication and lays a good foundation for further digitization of the production process!”
