You can fit exterior and interior doors with the finest access control solutions that may or may not give someone access to the space behind them, but without a good management system there is little you can do. With that comes the question of what is a good system. Nina de Graaff, access control account manager at dormakaba, knows all about it and updates us.
"For operating our 'hardware,' there is dormakaba MATRIX One. A web-based solution that corresponds to our door solutions, from registration unit to mechatronic lock," Nina explains. "Both the administrator and the end user use this web-based solution, which runs on both desktop browsers and mobile devices. The software is fully responsive and the dashboard that is displayed is uncluttered."
Another advantage is that dormakaba's hardware can be used in any system, from large to small, just by a firmware upgrade. Nina explains: "dormakaba ensures that the software is always up to date. So there is never any need to change client software and as a user you automatically work with the most recent version of the software. And in terms of security you are in good shape, MATRIX One is certified according to Swiss security standards. In addition, we perform regular tests to see how secure the system is. Of course, the ultimate security responsibility lies with the end user, who must ensure that, for example, no passwords are lying around or computers are 'open' when no one is in the workplace."
As a basic version, MATRIX One is a free application with free licenses for up to 100 users. "That's already a lot and you can set up a complete access control system with it," Nina explains. "As soon as you want to take advantage of more features or have more than 100 users, you can upgrade the package to MATRIX One Expert (E) or MATRIX One All Options (O). Depending on the upgrade, more features can be linked, such as attendance registration and having more users added." Our well-trained partners are on hand to advise you on the upgrade.
"More and more companies now have a CloudFirst policy, here we also go along: since February we will even host MATRIX One in the Cloud, you only need internet. Then you do not buy a license, but a router that connects to the dormakaba cloud. This gives more convenience and less worry. Right now, digital access is the very safest way to work. Losing a physical key still poses the most risk. Between the PC and the electronic door fitting or reader unit is an access manager, a piece of hardware. This establishes contact between the system and the components. You can control the outer shell of a building online; you can keep the inner shell offline if you want, if you apply the right hardware. So extra safe and you save a lot of costs and building modifications."
The beauty is that dormakaba's access control solutions are of interest to everyone. Nina: "You can start as small as you want and scale it up as big as you want. The ease of use remains the same, so does the reliability. Everything is compatible, so you never have to replace hardware when scaling up. Our solutions just grow with your business."
