The future is digital, including for access control

In the past, doors were opened and closed with a key. But here, too, the future is digital, and products and systems have been developed that make it possible to unlock and even open doors automatically and provide them with access control. Thus specialist SIEGENIA offers architects, processors and consumers various innovative digital locking and access control systems: digital, flexible and future-proof.

KFV's innovative locking technology has been a success story for more than 150 years. Indeed, the German specialist, which has belonged to the SIEGENIA Group since 2006, remains continuously committed to developing innovative solutions for unlocking and opening doors for access control. The evolution towards a smarter way of living and working has once again created many challenges. "Today's so-called smart buildings must guarantee users comfort, security, energy efficiency and convenience. To this end, lighting, heating, computers, television, audio, security systems and cameras are linked and communicate with each other in a single digital building management system.

The user can control each element from any room, as well as remotely via a smartphone, tablet, computer or other device," says André Zech, product manager at the SIEGENIA Group. "In addition to the well-known key-operated locking system, the market now offers innovative digital locking and access control systems that can be easily integrated into that building home automation."

Comfort and safety

SIEGENIA recently introduced a number of innovative access control systems - a transponder, a keypad and a finger scanner - that open new doors for architect, processor and consumer. For example, they are characterized by an elegant design with LED lighting over the entire surface, which can be easily adjusted to the color of the door.

"We paid a lot of attention to flexibility and ease of use. For example, unlike previous systems, the user no longer has to move their hand over the entire sensor surface; a single fingertip is sufficient. These solutions can be controlled with RIFD cards, NFC-compatible smartphones and are also equipped with wifi and bluetooth, allowing them to be operated with a remote control, cell phone or the SIEGENIA Comfort app," explains the product manager.

"With this app, not only the access control systems, but also SIEGENIA's windows and doors can be controlled. Moreover, products, which are later integrated into the building, can also be added to the app quickly and easily."

Security was also considered, of course, with access registration, time control and an online management system, among other features. Thus owners, company managers, security and facility managers can easily grant authorized persons access to the building. For example, the keypad can also be equipped with a one-time or vacation PIN function.

Digital, flexible and future-proof

Digital technology with SIEGENIA's innovative SI-BUS as its basis makes these new systems extremely flexible and future-proof. "For example, direct communication between motor control and access control is possible without a separate control element. In the future, new products from SIEGENIA and even systems from other companies can also be added without any problems. And the integration into home automation also opens up possibilities for integrating house doors into alarm systems or operating garage doors with the KFV transponder without additional wiring," André Zech adds. "In the past, we often developed solutions for one particular application, but if we now introduce a fingerprint scanner, it should be able to be used for doors, but also, for example, for windows, sliding systems and a wide variety of other products."

Easy mounting

The design and ease of use convince architects and consumers, while the processor attaches great importance to easy processing and assembly. "We also put ourselves in the place of that processor and thus came up with a solution tailored to his needs," concludes product manager Zech. "The equal infill for all variants, the space-saving installation without a separate control element and the simple and fast wiring with standard plug-and-play connections are important assets for them."
