Hinge suitable for data and power throughput: welcome to the world of tomorrow

With the increase in automated access control and smart home automation solutions, the demand for smart door solutions is also increasing. Not everything can be wireless, so cabling is required. However, the smart door normally has a weak point when it comes to cabling: at the pivot point, the hinge. Leader in innovative hardware, Breuer & Schmitz, however, has an excellent solution for this.

We speak with Gijs-Bert Drost, account manager at Breuer & Schmitz, about the new Connect system. "Movement and a static cable are never friends. With our Connect hinge, we were able to solve this. Because of the built-in disc contacts in the hinge, no cable breakage can occur when doors are rotating."

Suitable for all common electronic components

"Whether it's combination locks, motorized locks, electronic door springs, lighting or sensors on windows and doors, the Connect system allows you to run the right cabling to it," Drost states. Flexibly deployable

Connect can be applied to all of BSW's common hinges. "Also suitable for project hinges, hinges for glass doors and for both obtuse and overlap doors. Even our 3D VZX hinge system can be equipped with it," Drost lists. "We leave nothing to chance when it comes to quality. Connect has been tested by us with more than 200,000 open and close cycles."

Universally applicable safety hinges

A security hinge that only requires an indentation? This is possible with the 818 Protect hinge from BSW. Drost explains, "With the new 818 Protect hinge you no longer need to drill a hole for the thief pin. This hinge features innovative Protect security hooks with hanging seam limitation. There is no watering in at the top and the hinge comes with improved, maintenance-free bearings. With a load capacity of up to 150 kg, the 818 Protect is a real powerhouse."

From 1883 to 2021

With the growth, over the past few years, that Breuer & Schmitz has experienced, a new, more modern building belongs. It has not become too small, but it is dated and the internal logistics do not make sense. The factory is in a residential area, and shifts are therefore not possible.

"We have invested a lot in our machinery in recent years and are now ready for a new home," Drost says. "Next year in the summer we will move from our old, 1883 building to a new building about 2 kilometers away. It is a completely sustainable accommodation, completely in line with today's sustainability requirements, and of course it is energy-neutral. That building should pay for itself. This accommodates the growth nicely, and it gives us the opportunity to work in multiple shifts."

Fortunately, the corona crisis has not stopped Breuer & Schmitz's growth. "We continue to produce as usual, taking all necessary measures into account; we are there for our customers. More than ever before - I think - it has become clear that 'Made in Europe' means that you can count on each other even under harsh conditions," Drost concludes.
