Automatic revolving doors with ultra-slim design and RC2 certification

How about revolving doors that offer maximum user comfort, combined with an increased level of security and freedom in design choice? This is possible with the new KTV Revolving Doors from dormakaba, which are equipped with a "direct drive". The concept of this new, electromagnetic drive minimizes noise and wear, while allowing the door leaves to be rotated and positioned with extreme precision. The unobtrusive top drive enables a minimum top belt height of only 100 mm!

The transmission-free drive is based on the - now highly proven - dormakaba magnetic technology. The minimum required top belt height provides sufficient space for the "direct drive" and creates a unique, slim and stylish design. We speak with Chretien Velthuizen, responsible for marketing communications at dormakaba.

Noiseless and low maintenance

"Installation in the ceiling of the revolving door protects the operator from environmental and outdoor influences such as rainwater or dirt, as well as aggressive cleaning agents," Velthuizen begins the conversation. "The low-maintenance and virtually silent operation of the new KTV revolving door is due to the drive without gears or toothed belts. The result is a gentle rotary movement, while maintaining functionality of mechanical components of the door equipment."

The RC2 certificate applies to KTV Revolving Doors that are equipped with
locking internal or external front sliding doors where both cockpit wall and front sliding doors are equipped with P4A glass.

The increased accuracy in positioning improves the climate separation between the inner and outer zones of the door and reduces drafts. "This supports a consistent indoor climate," said Veldhuizen. "In addition, quick installation and easy commissioning guarantee high usability and reduced purchase costs. The individually adjustable speed limitation also increases the safety of the door equipment and protects against vandalism and excessive acceleration of the system."

The operator system is available in the following versions: manually operated with speed limiter, automated positioning system, Servomatic system and Automatic system. Velthuizen continues his story: "The new operator system will now be used as standard within a wide range of KTV revolving doors. Depending on year of construction and available configurations, existing KTV Revolving Doors can also be equipped with the 'direct drive' through a so-called retrofit kit."

The combination of the "direct drive" non-contact drive, full automation -with drive in ceiling and yet only 100mm top band height- and resistance class RC2 -with front sliding doors- make this revolving door unique in the market.

Fully RC2 certified

Last month, dormakaba also received the certificate for burglary protection to resistance class RC2 for KTV Revolving Doors. "This certificate applies to KTV revolving doors equipped with lockable internal or external front sliding doors where both tub wall and front sliding doors are equipped with P4A glass. In terms of dimensions, the specifications are similar to those of the regular KTV3 and KTV4 doors. The combination of the 'direct drive' non-contact drive, full automation - with drive in the ceiling and yet only 100mm top tape height - and resistance class RC2 - with front sliding doors - make this revolving door unique in the market," Velthuizen concludes. 

The RC2 certificate

The RC2 certificate is valid for the versions with external front sliding doors with a 200 mm top band, for internal front sliding doors with a 200 mm top band and for external front sliding doors with a 100 mm top band, irrespective of the operating variant used. All revolving doors with diameters from 2 meters to 3.8 meters and equipped with P4A glass (tub and front sliding doors), have received the RC2 certification. The tests were carried out according to EN1627, EN1628 (static load test), EN1629 (dynamic load test) and EN1630 (manual burglary attempt).
