Smart Homes and Smart Buildings. More and more residents and companies are taking advantage of the benefits of digitalization. Also when it comes to door hardware. HOPPE, one of the European market leaders in the development, production and sale of hardware systems for doors and windows, is capitalizing on this with various mechatronic products. A good example are the HandsFree and FingerScan electronic door fittings, which combine keyless entry with optimum security and simple access management.
"HOPPE is originally a manufacturer of mechanical hardware," stresses project consultant for the Netherlands Angelo van Aken. "Now that the market increasingly demands mechatronic solutions however, we naturally go along with this. In recent years, we have developed various mechatronic hardware solutions. For example, this has resulted in eDoor hardware HandsFree, which allows users to easily unlock their front door. Even when their hands are full. A simple foot movement through a light field on the ground is sufficient for this."
At the basis of eDoor hardware HandsFree is a bracket handle into which the control unit is stylishly integrated. "A person with access authorization is automatically recognized when approaching the door, via the coded signal from their transponder," says Van Aken. "A wireless detection radius of only one meter guarantees optimum convenience as well as secure communication. As soon as an authorized person approaches the front door, a light field appears on the ground below the bracket handle. One simple movement through this light field - for example with a foot, an umbrella or similar - is enough to unlock the door's motor lock and open the door. Because the light field is adjustable in different colors (white, blue, green and red), good visibility on any surface is ensured."
The multiple communication between the transponder and control unit provides significantly more security than a conventional key, he emphasizes. "All signals are transmitted AES encrypted. In addition, authorizations can easily be added or revoked without having to replace cylinders. This offers a solution, for example, in the event of theft or loss of a transponder."
HOPPE eDoor hardware HandsFree includes a bracket handle, a half garnish for the inside of the door, X number of transponders and associated cabling. "HandsFree is compatible with the most widely used electronic multi-point locks in the market, such as FUHR multitronic, GU-Secury, KFV Genius, Winkhaus blueMatic EAV3 and Winkhaus BlueMotion," Van Aken said. "Depending on the lock chosen, we supply the appropriate cabling to connect lock and sensor."
"Both building owners and architects appreciate as many functionalities as possible, without annoying scanners on the wall," Van Aken knows. "In addition to eDoor hardware HandsFree, eDoor hardware FingerScan also plays into this optimally. In this biometric access solution, the finger scanner is cleverly and almost invisibly integrated into the handle or knob of the external door fitting. This allows the door to be unlocked and opened in one fluid hand movement. Since every fingerprint is unique, optimum access security is also ensured here."
The FingerScan module records the characteristics of the finger lines and compares them with data stored in the finger's reference image, he says. "As a result, the probability of wrongful acceptance is 1:10 million. This makes eDeur hardware FingerScan 1,000 times more secure than the 4-digit numeric code of a debit card. The FingerScan modules feature a special surface that prevents an image of the fingerprint from being stored on the scanner. Thus, making unauthorized copies is not possible."
The latest generation of eDoor hardware FingerScan uses finger scan modules from manufacturer ekey. The technology works together with the previously mentioned multi-point locks as well as with the ekey bionyx app. This app not only manages different users, but also offers useful additional functions. For example, as desired, users can receive push notifications when access is granted. The options also include setting time windows for specific persons and/or opening the front door remotely. eDoor hardware FingerScan is available as a button set and in different handle shapes, in the colors F69 (matte stainless steel) and F9714M (matte black).
