Automatic crane job is the new step in business optimization

Automatic crane runway is the new step in business optimization

For loyal readers of this magazine, the company is no stranger. JAZO in Zevenaar is the country's largest developer and manufacturer of metal products for access, ventilation and shielding. Characteristic of the company is that everything from design to implementation is done in-house, including the surface finishing of all profiles in zinc, stainless steel, aluminum and steel. Hans Steintjes, coating team leader, together with buyer Jan Staring, recently purchased a new crane track above the 12 baths for chemical pretreatment. "An important new step in business optimization," he explains. We speak with him about the choice of Railtechniek van Herwijnen group for the delivery.

The stainless steel baskets were developed by JAZO itself; the crane track was designed by Van Herwijnen.

Fully automatic pretreatment line

"In the old situation, we did everything by hand. The entire pretreatment line consists of 11 chemical baths of 7,500 liters each and a drying oven at the end of the line. We used to lower the stainless steel baskets into the baths by hand for each type of material. Thanks to Teleflex (part of Railtechniek van Herwijnen group) and Van Herwijnen, this is now done fully automatically. Fully shielded, safe and efficient. Each material has its own program that does the job. This has made the whole system practically impervious to errors. There are 6 different programs, per program we can fine-tune everything. Think about time duration for example."

A beautiful interplay of qualities

The stainless steel baskets were developed by JAZO itself, the crane track was designed by Van Herwijnen and the automatic hoists in the crane track were developed by GIS and supplied by Teleflex.

"A nice combination of qualities," Hans continues. "And a nice addition to our automatic powder coating system that was also developed and supplied by Van Herwijnen."

When asked whether Van Herwijnen and Teleflex were automatically chosen as suppliers, the answer is, "Because of their good experience, they had an edge. However, we must always be critical on the technical and purchasing side, so we certainly did not take any chances. The decisive factor for us was a visit we were allowed to make to a client of Van Herwijnen, where we were able to see a similar system in action. We were impressed by the peace of mind, the smooth operation and
efficiency."

Half a word is enough

Just as JAZO is a leader in its own sector, so is Van Herwijnen (together with Teleflex) a leader in this type of equipment, Hans believes. "People understand JAZO like no other. JAZO has more than 40 years of pre-treatment experience, and Van Herwijnen understands that it is so important for us to maintain maximum control throughout the process. In the whole process from quotation to installation, Van
Herwijnen has been extremely transparent and has shown high-level thinking skills. That makes you more partners to each other than client and supplier."
