Teleflex BV, based in Tiel, has a history dating back to 1950. What began as a manufacturer of long-distance cable-based control systems has grown into a company with a broad scope of operations. For the window frame industry, the focus is primarily on mechanical and electric window controls for a wide variety of window types and applications. Operations Manager Jesse Verheem discusses the company’s development and capabilities.
Teleflex was founded in Rotterdam in 1950 and initially focused on long-distance cable control systems, known as the Teleflex system. In the same year, the company also began designing, manufacturing, and installing overhead conveyor systems.
In 1999, Teleflex became part of the Railtechniek division of the Herwijnen Group in Tiel. In 2008, the company acquired the operations of Amerflex BV, further expanding its product line to include, among other things, mechanical and electric window controls and sliding door hardware.
“Thanks to that development, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of window controls,” says Verheem. “At the same time, we continue to explore new opportunities and developments in the market.”

Teleflex advises on, supplies, and installs mechanical and electric window openers for, among other things, casement windows, tilt-and-turn windows, interior windows, sliding windows, skylights, and domes. The product line ranges from single and double chain openers to linear openers and rack openers.
“Our window controls are widely used in residential and commercial construction, such as in homes, schools, and government buildings. We primarily supply our products through hardware retailers and to contractors.”
If desired, Teleflex can be involved in a project as early as the consultation phase. “We look at the type of window, its dimensions, and weight, as well as how the window is intended to be used. Based on that, we recommend the most suitable solution. In doing so, we take into account both the applicable requirements and the aesthetic appeal of the building and the window frame.”

The most suitable operating system depends on the project and the users' needs. Electric operation is particularly useful for windows that are difficult to reach or when multiple windows need to be opened and closed at the same time.
“That ranges from a relatively simple electric control system to systems that allow multiple windows to be controlled centrally,” said Verheem. In addition to consulting and supply, Teleflex can also handle the installation.

The options for controlling electric window openers have continued to expand in recent years. “For example, a window can be opened and closed using a radio-controlled remote, but operation via a wall switch is still possible as well. In addition, systems can be connected via Wi-Fi to a smartphone app. This makes window control increasingly user-friendly and flexible.”

In addition to window controls, Teleflex is involved in other business activities. As part of the Herwijnen Group’s Rail Technology division, the company manufactures and installs overhead conveyor systems worldwide, ranging from manually operated monorails to fully automated Power & Free systems with capacities of up to 5,000 kg.
In addition, Teleflex is the official Benelux distributor for the Swiss company GIS, a manufacturer of electric chain hoists and lifting solutions. “To that end, we represent the complete line of lifting and hoisting equipment,” says Verheem.
For the window frame industry, however, the expertise gained in window operation remains central. “Ultimately, it’s all about finding the right solution for every window and every usage scenario.”
